v03, New Module, and Updates!

Hello brigands!

SO. Pretty significant update today. As you can see, I've uploaded v03 of Brinkwood, which rolls out a lot of new stuff, mostly geared towards longer campaign-style play. An abbreviated list of what's added:

  • Rules for the GM on how to maneuver "units" of vampiric servants around a map of Cardenfell
  • Detailed rules for Forays, Downtime, and the Refuge.
  • Rules for the "Combat Clock", a visual aid for ambushes / combat
  • Rules for "The Conclave", a special mini-session where you take on the role of competing factions within your nascent rebellion.
  • New character sheets, designed by Francita Soto
  • Some editing / grammar fixes
  • Monsters! Vampire lords! Oh my! Principally designed by @ShillSphinx!

I'm also including in this update a PDF of my Halloween-themed module, "A Ghoulish Factory". I recommend waiting to read that one until after you've watched a play-though of it on Monday, 10/28/2019, at 4:30 pm on the San Jenaro Twitch Stream.

Next up, I want to talk to ya'll a bit about the future of Brinkwood. This game started out as a lark, principally for #folkloreJam and #bigbadjam, but since then, having seen the reaction to it online and at Big Bad Con, I wanted to continue working on it. To that end, I'm excited to announce that I've partnered with the San Jenaro CoOp, and we're working on developing Brinkwood further, possibly for a crowdfunding campaign and physical release.

Now, where does that leave you, my earliest supporters? Well, I talked it over with the CoOp, and we want to kick some the decision-making to you. After all, this project wouldn't have come off the ground without you.

To that end, we wanted to ask you what you think should be done with the "itch.io" incarnation of Brinkwood. Right now, the options we're considering are as follows, but feel free to suggest others in the comments!

1. Keep it As-Is

You basically know what this is. We keep this itch.io page as it is, with the same pricing as before.

2. Community Copy Model  - 10 Copies

In this model, we would keep the "minimum price" at $5.00, but for every copy of the game bought and every tip paid (including those you've already so generously pitched in!) would put 10 "community copies" into the wild, free to be claimed by anyone.

2a. Unlimited Community Copy Model

This is similar to the community copy model, except instead of doing 10 community copies per purchase / tip, we will instead set it to 999, making it effectively unlimited, so that anyone who wants to can claim a free copy. Other publishers have had some success with the approach as well.

3. PWYW Model

This would be signalling our desire for this to be living playtest document, open to everyone, but with the option for folks to kick in some cash if they like.

So, tell us what you think! We've got a "ranked choice" poll set up, that will be running until next Friday. Vote for your favorite option as rank 1, and proceed to rank other choices with your least favorite being rank 4. We'll announce the results and any updates to the pay model soon after.
